Musians I’ve played with recently…
And other musicians and artisans...
CampfireDitties.com | Campfire Ditties is the host site of audio and video recordings by Ian Gibbons. Ian has been working with me to record my upcoming live-off-the-floor CD and he filmed & edited my first ever publicly available video. (Check out Another Sad Song performed live on Jan 19th, 2005). Woo! Have a look through the growing list of musicians and poets on the site, and be sure too to peruse the photo section of the site... another of Ian's talents--the still camera lens.
www.museumofbadart.org | "The Museum Of Bad Art (MOBA) is the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms." Chock full of masterpieces that are far better than mediocre... highly entertaining. Be sure to read the apt descriptions of the works. (I'm pretty sure this museum is for real, yup!) .
www.robertorosenman.com | Website of Toronto artist, Roberto Rosenman. Showcases his work as a visual artist--check out the gallery. Yup, I dig his stuff. Austere, detailed. And, if you happen to be in the Dundas/Ossington neighbourhood on a late Saturday afternoon, you really should drop by the Communist Daughter for some fabulous Gypsy Jazz as played by Roberto's group Grande Bouche Swingtette. Not only does this lively group feature his lovely Django-style guitar playing, but also a bartender (Michael J) who sings & plays trumpet while simultaneously serving up beer. Most fun!
Chris Martin | No, no! Not the Coldplay dude. I'm talking about the much understated Edmonton poet, who you may also know as radio DJ on CJSR-fm in Edmonton (which incidentally, you can tune into online at www.cjsr.com). Recently I have had the great joy of making acquaintance with Chris M. and his work. Here are a couple of his recent poems as well as my favourites from his chapbook, The Secret Admirer's Bank Account...
www.swamperella.com | Here's where you can get out your two-step dancing yah-yahs to Swamperella's cajun tunage. The band usually throws a monthly dance in Toronto, including a two-step lesson at the start of the evening for those wanting a little how-to. By the way, two of Swamperella's members, Rachel Melas & Connie Nowe, play on my CD, Bird.
www.whitetrashink.com | Featuring the photography of David Wiewel. I think David has incredible knack for capturing the energy of a live performance. He travels around the Canadian folk and club circuit documenting a myriad of well-known artists--I'm sure you'll recognize some of the faces in his gallery. (ps) His site's a bit wonky to navigate, but it's worth wandering around there for awhile. Click the upper left hand area to go to the musician's gallery. His journalist-pics are stunning, too!
www.sabooge.org | Sabooge Theatre Troupe. Hmm. How do you describe these folks? Here. I'll let them do it: "Brought together in 1999 by their training in Paris, SaBooge Theatre is an international ensemble of North American and European artists dedicated to the creation of innovative and thought provoking physical theatre...Drawing inspiration from existing and historical sources, SaBooge conceives compelling and highly visual narratives that seek the revelation of an unexpected humanity in the marginalized and the extraordinary." I say: Fabulous theatre.
